3 Ways to Design and Use Postcards for Promoting Your Company

Most people get a constant stream of postcards in their mailboxes. A large percentage of these cards are promotional. If you own a business, you should consider employing postcards as well, but you want to make sure that yours stand above the crowd.

Include Photo Printing for Pizzazz

Too many of the postcards that arrive each day are boring. The best people do is to add a line or two of color printing. Sure, that helps some, but the overall effect is enough to make you yawn.

When anyone pulls the day’s mail out of the box, they are going to give your card about 1 second to grab their attention. Even before they read the print, you have to attract them. The simplest way to do that is to place a full color photo on the card.

Photo quality printing is simple to achieve. You can get digital printing if you are ordering smaller batches of cards, and larger orders will be made with offset printing. The small size of the picture will help insure high quality even in a digital format; you won’t get the pixilation you see in oversized enlargements. This isn’t an issue with offset processes.

Cover one whole side with a picture, add a little bit of text, and keep the rest of the message for the back of the postcard. Keep your message short and direct, and you will have a good return on investment.

Work With an Online Printing Service

Online printers know how to create postcards that work. They have gained this knowledge by working with numerous businesses. They have listened time and again to entrepreneurs explain what they want; a card that attracts attention, is well priced and can be used as part of a mailing campaign. Why would you ignore such a useful resource?

Your local print shop may have made postcards for someone else, but chances are they have never even dreamed of the volume of business that your typical online printing company has seen. Their guess at what works is just as good as yours, especially if you don’t have any significant marketing experience.

Have your online printer proof your work, even if it costs you a few dollars. The end result will pay off in new business.

Color Printing Makes the Sale

Sitting on my desk, right now, are three postcards that came in the mail today. One has a full color graphic, the next is yellow and has 2 lines of red ink among the black, the final one is white and black. I don’t need to tell you which one attracts my attention the most.

Even if full color printing is beyond your means, consider getting the most important lines of your content in color. The eye is naturally drawn to the two red lines on the otherwise boring postcard. The reader knows immediately what the card is promoting. If those two lines are interesting enough, the reader will at least scan the rest of the card, and that might be just enough to get them hooked. Never underestimate the power of color.

There are an infinite number of things you can do with your postcard promotions to make them more interesting, more effective and improve your results. Take the time to learn how to use all of your marketing materials successfully, it can be the difference between being in the red or the black.
